Clinical Experience
Yazmine has more than fifteen years of nursing experience, including emergency care, acute care, obstetrics, neonatal intensive care, and nursing leadership. Those years of caring for people on some of their hardest days shaped how she practices now: listening closely, explaining things plainly, and looking at the whole person, including their medical history, sleep, stress, family, and goals, and not only a list of symptoms.
Her Approach to Care
- Time to talk. Evaluations and follow-ups are built around listening, not a checklist.
- Shared decisions. You hear the options, the benefits, and the possible side effects, and you decide together.
- Careful, monitored prescribing. Medication is started thoughtfully, followed closely, and adjusted as needed. It is never the only option discussed.
- Family-centered care. For children and teens, parents and guardians are partners in care.
- Respect for every patient. Care is provided without discrimination, with accommodations on request.
A Growing Team
North Star is adding additional psychiatric nurse practitioners and licensed therapists, so patients can access both medication management and talk therapy. You can meet the team on the Our Providers page or filter by age group, condition, and type of care on Find a Provider.

Do I need a referral to see a psychiatric provider at North Star?
No. You can register directly as a new patient without a referral from another physician.
What ages does Yazmine see?
Patients across the lifespan, from children and adolescents to adults and older adults, in person in Lexington or by telepsychiatry for patients located in South Carolina.
Does Yazmine provide talk therapy?
Her role at North Star is psychiatric evaluation and medication management. Talk therapy is provided by licensed therapists as they join the practice, and she can coordinate referrals when therapy would help.
What is the difference between a psychiatric nurse practitioner and a psychiatrist?
Both evaluate, diagnose, and treat mental health conditions and prescribe medication. A psychiatrist is a physician (MD or DO) who completed medical school and a psychiatry residency.
