North Star Psychiatry & Wellness, LLC
A growing team, one standard of care.
The practice was built on a simple idea: patients deserve real time to talk, a provider who knows their history, and a treatment plan built around their life, not a template. As North Star grows to include additional psychiatric nurse practitioners and licensed therapists, that standard stays the same for every patient, with every provider.
Together, our team provides evaluation, medication management, and therapy across the lifespan — pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric — for patients navigating anxiety, depression, ADHD, bipolar disorder, PTSD, and other mental health conditions, in-office in Lexington or by telehealth across South Carolina.
Psychiatric care, done thoughtfully.
Every plan starts with listening. From there, we build a course of care that's realistic, monitored closely, and adjusted as you need it.

Questions patients often ask.
Do I need a referral to see a psychiatric provider?
No. You do not need a referral to schedule a psychiatric evaluation at North Star Psychiatry & Wellness. You can request an appointment directly through our New Patient Registration form.
Can a psychiatric nurse practitioner prescribe medication?
Yes. A board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC) is licensed to evaluate, diagnose, and prescribe psychiatric medication, including for ADHD, anxiety, depression, and bipolar disorder, working under a collaborative practice agreement as required by South Carolina law.
What happens during a psychiatric evaluation?
A comprehensive psychiatric evaluation typically takes about 60 minutes. Your provider will review your mental health and medical history, current symptoms, medications, and goals for treatment, then discuss a personalized care plan, which may include medication management, therapy, or both.
Do you treat children with ADHD?
Yes. North Star provides ADHD evaluation and treatment across the lifespan, including children, adolescents, and adults, with medication management tailored to age, symptoms, and family goals.
What is psychiatric medication management?
Medication management is the ongoing process of prescribing, monitoring, and adjusting psychiatric medication over time. It includes regular follow-up visits to track how you're responding, manage side effects, and make changes as needed.
Do you offer telepsychiatry in South Carolina?
Yes. North Star offers telepsychiatry visits by secure video for patients located anywhere in South Carolina, in addition to in-person appointments at our Lexington office.
When should I see a psychiatric provider?
Consider scheduling an evaluation if symptoms like low mood, anxiety, trouble focusing, or changes in sleep or appetite have lasted more than a couple of weeks and are affecting your daily life, work, school, or relationships. You don't need to wait until things feel unmanageable to get an evaluation.
What's the difference between a psychiatric nurse practitioner and a therapist?
A psychiatric nurse practitioner focuses on evaluation, diagnosis, and medication management. A therapist provides talk therapy to work through thoughts, behaviors, and coping strategies. Many patients benefit from one, the other, or both working together — our team can help you decide what fits.
Do you accept my insurance?
North Star works with a range of South Carolina insurance plans, listed on our Insurance & Payment section above. Coverage varies by plan, so we recommend contacting our office to confirm your specific benefits before your first visit. Self-pay patients are also welcome.
What if I need a medication refill between appointments?
Contact our office directly to request a refill. Depending on the medication and your treatment plan, a brief check-in visit may be needed before a refill can be authorized, particularly for controlled substances.
Do you treat older adults?
Yes. North Star provides psychiatric care across the full lifespan, including older adults navigating depression, anxiety, mood changes, and other conditions, with attention to how age and other medications can affect treatment.
What if I need to cancel or reschedule an appointment?
Please contact our office as soon as you know you need to change an appointment. Appointments canceled with less than 24 hours' notice, or missed without notice, may be subject to a fee — see our Credit Card on File & Financial Responsibility policy for details.
